Page 8 - REPORT Brinkman 20-MAR Healthcare Roundtable
P. 8
Priority setting
After exploring ideas in all three selected areas, we prioritized them by allocating “investment” in each.
Each participant had $16k to invest in three “chips” ($10k, $5k, $1k) they needed to allocate to each of
the three areas. The results in $k invested and how many participants picked a given area as their top
areas is as follows:
Invested
Rank Area Total ($k) # as TOP
We need to improve access to $48 4
healthcare
We need to promote and incentivize $42 2
healthy lifestyles and preventative
care
We need to be part of a push for cross- $38 2
state lines access to coverage
Conclusion
This is a draft report. It contains participant insight and input and some analysis. From this result, Rep.
Brinkman will do additional analysis and, ultimately, determine the best proposals and approaches for
the district and Ohio.
But, on the surface, the stand-out action areas include:
• We need to improve access to healthcare
o Allowing more choice in coverage (mandated elements) to increase access.
o Providing more education but, as importantly, some method to assess the effectiveness
of education (ex: awareness of services available).
• We need to promote and incentivize healthy lifestyles and preventative care
o Availability of nutritional food options in food desert areas via public / private
partnerships.
o Incentives / discounts for participation in healthy lifestyle programs / offerings.
• We need to be part of a push for cross-state lines access to coverage
o Some form of an “across Ohio” plan option that may only be effective for some but can
serve to encourage broader networks and more competition.
